THE SMILING MAN : Story of a terrible night

THE SMILING MAN               "About five years ago I lived downtown in a major city in the US. I've always been a night person, so I would often find myself bored after my roommate, who was decidedly not a night person, went to sleep. To pass the time, I used to go for long walks and spend the time thinking.   I spent four years like that, walking alone at night, and never once had a reason to feel afraid. I always used to joke with my roommate that even the drug dealers in the city were polite. But all of that changed in just a few minutes of one evening.   It was a Wednesday, somewhere between one and two in the morning, and I was walking near a police patrolled park quite a ways from my apartment. It was a quiet night, even for a week night, with very little traffic and almost no one on foot. The park, as it was most nights, was completely empty.   I turned down a short side street in order to loop back to

The Wraith of Whispering Pines

Once upon a time in a small, isolated village nestled deep within a dense, ancient forest, there was a legend that terrified its inhabitants for generations. The story told of a malevolent spirit known as "The Wraith of Whispering Pines." The forest was said to be cursed, with the Wraith haunting those who dared to venture too far into its depths.   One chilling autumn evening, a group of daring young friends decided to test the legend. Armed with flashlights, they ventured into the forest, their laughter echoing through the trees. The village had long since stopped believing in the Wraith, considering it a mere tale to keep children from straying too far from home.   As the group delved deeper into the woods, the air grew colder, and the once rhythmic chirping of crickets turned to eerie silence. They came across an old, dilapidated cabin. Its windows were shattered, and the wooden walls were covered in strange symbols and cr

A Time Traveler Visited Her

TIME-TRAVEL A traveler revealed himself to me, ascended to a different plane, I lost 3 hours of time, police interaction, revealed boyfriend’s true colors, shared knowledge.   16 years ago , I was in college and a traveler came to my beach house that I shared with 3 roommates. He slipped in with two early 20 something guys who were friends of my roommate one night. They had come from 30 miles away to hang out and the person they brought with them was a 30 something man who had given them a ride. I don’t know how they knew eachother, but it was clear that he was just a ride and not their friend. He was physically striking with a bald head, very long beard, strong build and he wore a Phillies tank top jersey. His eyes were light brown, slightly lighter than his skin and his voice was extremely deep and gravely. He had a very ancient look, like a babylonian relief carving.   The guys he drove introduced him as Philly (because he was fro

My Wife Found God | Story of a Sacrifice

After her miscarriage, my wife started praying a lot. Which was odd. As far as I knew she didn’t even believe in God.   Every night, she would kneel at the foot of our bed, always in the same place, praying.   I gave her time and space to heal. I waited months to even bring up eventually trying again. We both wanted a kid.   “I don’t want another kid,” she said, “I want our son back.”   Son? We never learned the gender. How did she know it was a boy?   Slowly, she started praying more, longer. It wasn’t just before bed anymore. She’d kneel at the bed incessantly whispering to herself.   I’d finish a movie by myself and realize she’d been praying the whole time. Two hours?   Like I said, this wasn’t like her. I asked why she was praying so much.   “I’m talking to our son.”   “Honey, our son passed.”   “I know that. I’m not crazy . I’m talking to him on the other side.”   “Other side?”
